Product description
Whenever I discover a new medium or technique, I feel compelled to try it. I find it impossible to categorise my practice into a single specialism and instead work with mixed media, letting the materials guide me. I take inspiration from my local environment, finding ways to capture and create my own impression of it. This may involve the use of photography, paint, oil pastel, embroidery or printmaking, as methods of creating layers and textures.
Often adverse to planning, I embrace experimentation and unexpected outcomes, then refine my process until I am satisfied with the result. I love the ethereal, worn quality of emulsion transfers. To me, they show how photographs can represent faded memories. I think they work well as postcard-sized pieces – when the viewer looks closely, they’ll start to notice the layers, marks and textures that are created naturally through the process. As with film photography, the outcome of an emulsion transfer is unclear until the very end, which helps me to relinquish control
