This print is a portrait of inspirational mother & daughter, Kongosi & Furaha Mussanzi. Kongosi , her husband, Benoit Mussanzi & their young family, fled from the war in the Congo over 20 years ago, seeking sanctuary in the UK. In 2005 Kongosi was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize as part of the 1,000 women for peace project, in order to give more visibility & recognition to women’s peace work, world wide of women in conflict countries & also so called ‘peaceful countries’
Kongosi, Benoit & family have spent their time giving back to this country. They have worked tirelessly towards peace both in their adopted home city of Bradford & in the Congo.
Furaha is also a talented singer who performed in front of 20,000 people at the launch event of Bradford 2025 Capital of Culture
Background Information about Ruth Fettis
`I use the traditional medium of lino and woodcut to tell modern day stories. The foundation of all my narrative work lies in drawings of domestic, personal, social & cultural life. I live in Bradford and I am interested in drawing everyday extraordinary people in the community I live in & how the environment we live in connects us to the wider world.
