Background Information about Anita J Burrows

As an artist who has trained in Fine Art and subsequently returned to printmaking I find the idea of connecting Fine Art and Craft particularly interesting. Printmaking has often straddled this ideal of creative practice incorporating fine art thoughts into craft led processes of making printing plates. My work is inspired by the natural environment I am particularly drawn to trees and the play of light on surfaces at the beginning and end of the day when shadows are long and light is very contrasty. I make printing plates from lino, aluminium, zinc and card as well as exploring lithographic techniques. As I work in a small studio I am interested in safer ways of printmaking and to that end I have been exploring acrylic resists and photoploymer.

I grew up in Pendle and have continued to live in the area, I have always enjoyed the outdoors; experiencing the changing seasons and subsequent effects on the landscape. I enjoy walking and with the many paths that criss cross the countryside I am never short of places to explore.

I work as a professional artist from my studio at Higherford Mill.

Printmaking makes me happy, as a busy artist trying to make ends meet here in Pennine Lancashire my work is diverse and all encompassing. I work with people delivering arts for health projects and workshops for all ages in lots of different settings, including my own studio 'The Mangle Print Workshop' because my first press was made from an upcycled mangle. Making prints feeds my own need for creative expression and I become completely absorbed in the exploration of making marks on a plate. Making artwork about my life in the place where I live.
