Gasometer Seed

Nichola Rawnsley Gasometer Seed

£98.00

Product description

This is a juxtaposition between one of the smallest emblems of nature and a large man made structure made to hold fossil fuels. The sycamore tree is a symbol of longevity whilst the gas holders, which created so much ecological damage are now in turn ring removed with our changing needs and urban development.

I recently graduated from Leeds Arts University with an MA in Creative Practice. Recent artworks and prints examine the complex relationship between human lifestyles and nature.
I believe my themes embrace the  exhibition ‘seeds of change’ as my pieces are inspired by human changes to nature.

My work also comments on the negative changes we make to ourselves by turning our back on a natural way of living .
The latest series I use the high rise to epitomize the limitations I felt growing up in a restricted built environment. The birds are the freedom I desired with the oak canvas representing the replacement of the ancient trees with domestic concrete structures that now dominate the natural environment. The artwork was created by using photographs to produce a mono print that is then printed onto wood veneer.
The paradox is hopefully a jolt to see nature with fresh eyes and recognise the latent threat and maybe question our acceptance of such incongruent objects in our natural landscapes.
