Product description
One of the ‘Whatever Vases’ to add cuttings from the garden into the holes so they become part of the narrative. The vase tells a story of a transforming identity with free-hand carved and inlaid figures, coloured with underglaze.
The vase/pot tells an open story of the ‘phoenix rebirth from the ashes’ as a metaphysical representation of the transinformation of the past, present and future. Against the dark background, the phoenix spreads its’ body in the tight space constraining it from flying. It shows itself more than a surface decoration on a pot, but a living being who has a lively relationship with the vessel. The solid body of clay confines the movements of the phoenix, allowing you to hold the bird with your fingers. While the organic shapes imply the transience moments of the figures which are about to change any minute.
