Product description
My collage drawings involve multiple mediums of pencil drawing, watercolour, ink, Chinese Xuan paper and collage. They attempt to explore the development and the transforming identities of individuals affected by dramatic social changes and cultural dislocations in post- industrial communities, globally and locally in the North East. Through the use of a metaphorical visual language, I attempt to bridge the unknown, fear and surreal of the new with the realities of a rapidly developing globalisation, cultures and communities. By utilising this approach, I invite my audiences to challenge and explore the conventional definitions of self, memories, identity, and the human nature.
I enjoy creating new meanings and implications by deconstructing the shapes, structures and forms of conventional appearances of what I observe in life, cancelling out clear boundaries and allowing them to become hybridised. They pose questions of who we are and what are we going to be in the post-urbanisation. They provide perspectives to see possibilities of making connections between the irrelevant, making sense of the ruins of the old, and celebrating the diversity in culture.
