Product description
Inspired by the Leeds-Liverpool canal.
During a sketching trip in the Lancashire landscape, I discovered this bridge over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. There was much about this tranquil scene that attracted me: the way the canal meanders along with soft serpentine bends, the muted colours and the reflected June sunshine contrasting dynamically with the dark shadows in the foliage. A small study (acrylic on paper) led to a larger studio painting but I also wanted to explore the strong tonal contrasts through printmaking. Following the production of a small mono-print I felt that the image would benefit from further simplification and this lino-cut was developed as a small limited edition.
Background Information about Pete Marsh
Award winning painter and printmaker. My work is perceptual rather than conceptual, emotional rather than intellectual and I prefer expression over realism, subtlety over sensationalism, substance over novelty and intuition over reason. I hope to express something beyond visual verisimilitude.
