Product description
I have produced the canal series of tiles using earthenware glazed tiles and ceramic decals.
In most of my recent work, I use decals to add texture and surface designs. I design my own decals and have them commercially produced on A3 sheets. The decals are printed using ceramic glaze material rather than inks.
I researched the canal around WSG and collaged my designs using my stock decals. They are simply applied using water to a pre-fired glazed tile and are fired to 700 degrees. The decals fuse to the surface of the tile and become an integral part of the surface.
Background Information about John Cook Ceramics
The Fragments range of ceramics consists of both pots and tiles. I have been working for some time on the idea of gathering memories in the form of photographs paintings drawings and objects from my travels. These ideas have been incorporated into my tiles. They help form my memories a diary if you like. The multi-fired gazed tiles also incorporate ceramic decals made from drawings and photographs and are framed without glass in 3D frames.
