Background Information about Sophie Smith Ceramics

From her studio in High Wycombe, Sophie Smith works with earthenware ceramics to create gorgeous decorative pieces for the home that emphasise her unique vision and creative sensibilities. Using limited colour palettes (though still warm and bright!) Sophie Smith creates an emphasis on texture within her bowls, contrasting gloss and matte, glazed and unglazed, and the dichotomy of light and dark.

Taking inspiration from etchings and drawings of her own design, each bowl conveys a simple narrative that captures the beholder and engages with the imagination, from charming countryside scenes featuring folk animals, to star-filled night skies.

The interaction of two colour ways whether purple and orange, turquoise and deep blue are inhabited with glittering gold moon, stars and hearts. With each piece carefully handmade using moulds and grogged clay before being fired three times, Sophie

Sophie Smith studied at Chelsea School of Art and began to make and sell earthenware ceramics in 1995
