Product description
I have been designing and making jewellery for over twenty years. My inspiration comes from people, landscapes, sea and beaches. My designs have been influenced by the stunning colours of Rajasthan, stones purchased in Jaipur, the gentleness of Kerala, carved doors in the back streets of Stone Town, Zanzibar and the Greek Islands. The vibrant use of colour seen in remote parts of the world and the gentle colours found in nature stimulate creativity. The starting point for my designs is the astonishing breadth of different colours, shapes and markings on the stones I work with.
I have always picked up stones, starting on the beaches in Cornwall where I was brought up - it has been a life long obsession. So I suppose it is a natural progression designing jewellery using stones from all over the world. I just love them! On my travels I ‘acquire’ stones, always having to do a cull before returning to base. Making jewellery took over from painting murals, marbling, wood-graining, etc. It started in a small way, but very quickly grew into a full-time occupation.
Designing jewellery for a Titian exhibition at the National Galleries of Scotland was a highlight, also working in collaboration with dress designer Chrissie Clyne making pieces for her catwalk shows.
