I am a contemporary printmaker, mixed media artist and teacher based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. I trained in Graphic Arts at Leeds Metropolitan University then went on to specialise in collography and etching and in 2003 received an M.A. in Printmaking from Bradford University.
My work is a celebration of the life I see around me coupled with a love of colour and rich texture. Atmosphere and light play an important role and recent themes have explored the wet city streets of towns at night, sea storms, snowstorms and sunsets across the Yorkshire Dales. A lot of my prints are multi-coloured collagraphs, a process I enjoy using because of the tactile surface quality, exciting mark making potential and the unpredictable but unlimited expressive colour combinations that can be achieved.
I mainly produce prints in small editions of between 5 and 20. Each print I make is unique depending on the colours and wiping techniques used and often the differences are quite dramatic. I embrace this as a positive and exciting aspect of the collagraph process and exploit its potential within my series of works.
