Sue Turner
I am a long standing ceramic artist, teacher and NPA member. Memory, relationships and the lived environment provide the subject matter for my making. I enjoy handbuilding using a wide variety of clays which are often combined within a piece of work pushing the boundaries to see what will happen in a harsh stoneware firing. I also incorporate other materials, groggs, grits, oxides and found fragments to enrich the clay body and surface. Recent works reflect the landscape around my home on the moor tops above the Calder Valley. They reference the patchwork of fields in the far distance, the imagined strata beneath our feet and the rocky quarries and outcrops.
My work has been exhibited at a number of Northern galleries, events and arts festivals over the past 20 years.
