David Helm
David Studied Fine Art in Sunderland in the 70’s, his final show was mostly ceramic sculpture, but already showing a fascination with ‘artefacts’ from industrial history. On graduating David worked for Mary Waundrausch, the well- respected slipware potter, then moved on to work with vulnerable adults over many years as a social worker, before returning full time to potting in 2010.
He set up The Craft Workshop in Lindley, teaching classes and developing his vision for a creative arts hub serving the wider community.
David remains fascinated with the artefacts and glimpses we get into people’s lives from history, glimpses we might get in a museum, or at an auction sale, where once treasured possessions become junk through the passage of time. His work reflects this search for meaning.
