I love how Redon, in some of his canvases, puts heads in different areas, as if the objects in the paintings are not complete unless they are being observed.
I am fascinated by Redon’s deep blue, icon-like head with a background of gold, in his ‘Closed Eyes’ series and also the painting ‘The blue profile’.
My sewing, ‘Homage to Redon 1’’, is influenced by Redon’s oil still-life ‘Vase of flowers and profile’. I’ve changed the colour of the head in this painting (very pale ochres and pale yellow and white) to blue, recalling Redon’s evocative blue heads.
Redon painted many butterflies. In my small ‘Homage to Redon 2’ I’ve combined butterflies and a watching blue head.
