Brendan S Burns
Intro
Brendan Stuart Burns currently lives and works in Cardiff. The Pembrokeshire coast has been his central inspiration and influence for the past fifteen years, where light, reflection, refraction, colour, journey, surface texture and the ambiguity of space have created a distinctive visual language. The results are outstanding painterly works with heavily applied impasto often using encaustic. He is currently also moving ‘Beyond Paint’ experimenting with porcelain 3D forms, where gesture, mark and line have exited the canvas and emerged onto the gallery walls.
Biography
Brendan has received many awards including twice winning the Gold Medal in Fine Art at The National Eisteddfod of Wales and twice Welsh Artist of the Year. He exhibits nation wide, participating in many international exhibitions, many works being held in numerous private and public collections.
Early years were engaged with the ferocious backdrop of a political issues, developing to the arena of abstract expressionism and now the reflective experience and memories of landscape. The masterful painterly nature of his works is inspired by a particular locations in west Wales, the changing rhythms of shoreline, tide, light and horizon are constantly evolving.
His working process neither mimics or describes nature, but is closer to the experience of being in nature, emerged in a multi-sensory melting pot not only visual, but also taste, sound and touch. Burns engages the viewer in his transformative exploration and perceptive process, through the minds eye, to works of sublime contemplative beauty.
