After leaving Art College in 1974, and taking many wrong turns, I’ve started creating Ceramics after a short gap of 50 years. The stimulus for the sculptural pieces comes from textures, shapes, rocks, and interconnecting formations I find while walking by the coast or in the hills and mountains. Combined with an interest in fossils and prehistoric animal bones, this led me to try to combine the severe rock and stone forms with more fluid shapes and textures.
What I find truly remarkable is the way in which the unconscious takes over while working on a piece that often leads to a very different outcome than the original plan or vision – but I suppose that’s not very different from life itself.
