    Background Information about Tony Ovenell

Tony has been throwing pots for about 35 years, and has attended numerous courses and events along the way. For the past 10 years, he has been an active member of Hive Community Arts Centre in Shipley. He currently works primarily from a studio at his home in Bradford.

Tony is a member of The Northern Potters Association and his work has appeared on the cover of the NPA Newsletter (August 2020).

Tony works primarily in porcelain and aims to make finely thrown pieces with carefully considered surfaces. His main interest is in aesthetics rather than function.

Tony loves the potential of porcelain and he is fascinated by the challenges of throwing it on the potter’s wheel. The surfaces of his work are decorated with contrasting or complimentary areas of glaze and underglaze. In some instances, the designs deliberately blur the boundary between the interior and exterior of the piece.
