Mike Major
Initially an abstract painter, Michael Major uses the legacy of abstraction to bring a fresh vitality to the land and urban convention. In this series of work, following a visit to the gallery and by special request by gallery owners Mike and Rosemary, (who knew each other at the Royal College of Art, London) Michael responded to Calderdale’s canals, bridges and lock systems, working in oils, noting how light and reflections are continually in flux, shaping and reshaping. He brings rich luminosity
to an industrial and arguably prosaic subject.
