Print Makers

Showcasing artists specialising in original limited edition print works, who use time honoured techniques from etching and drypoint, to woodcut, and mono printing. While digital prints do not strictly fall within the original print category, we also exhibit quality digital prints particularly in relation to painters already with this gallery.

Works by local artist Shelley Burgoyne incorporates most printmaking media, and is enriching in their explorative subject mater from microscopic water samples, to seed pods, fountains and river reeds. Her combining of joyous colour and tonal blacks, especially in her carborundum techniques, makes these works special and masterful.

Embarking on a landscape of vast proportions, realised in small scale monotone etchings by Ian Brooks focus on the frozen outpost of the polar regions in his other role as scientist. They are tightly drawn, rendered in fine detail, etched into copper plates and hand printed with oil-based inks. Perhaps reflecting our current climate crisis yet they are ironically beautiful locations.

Incorporating different mark making print techniques, Susan Wright’s works are closely reflect her subject, frequently informed by areal maps as in her ‘Winter Notebook’ series, or distant making of the earth and moon. Relief works literally add another dimension, where the surface is built up and layered, telling visual stories about new imaginary places and landscapes.

The Pendle area of the Pennines is where Anita J Burrows grew up and lives, fully aware of seasons and weather, of light and shadows falling on the moorland and fields. Working with an upcylced mangle Anita is creatively experimental with the whole printing process, plates made from lino, aluminium, zinc and card as well as exploration of lithographic techniques and eco friendly resists and inks. Her three block woodcuts using oil based inks, are complimented with a limited and harmonious palate often blacks and ochres.

A wide selection of prints are always on display for customers to enjoy leafing through browsers.
