Liz Salter
Inspiration comes from walking the land, especially the remote hilly areas of Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Scotland and Ireland
She feels it is important to establish a relationship with these specific locations, to explore it by revisiting it in order to understand its many different aspects. This research is recorded through drawings and paintings made on location.
The experiences recorded in the drawings made on site are then developed in the studio, the painting also coming from the remembered experience of being there in all weather as well as the physical aspects of the place.
The paintings are made on paper using a variety of media including ink, acrylic paint and collage. Texture is an important element in her paintings along with the drawn line. The paint is energetic and layered, reflecting the layers of history and geology that have shaped the landscape. The processes involved in making work are a key part of her paintings.
